5 Stars Kenwood 7120
This is a great product…so many features in one place!!! The fit and finish in my car works perfect. I’ve had it now for about two weeks installed and have really enjoyed it. GPS..on spot…Sirius..clear as a bell…FM..a little weak….DVD…perfect…..blue tooth/phone…still figuring it out..a few bugs, but works…..Ipod..works perfect with video/sound…That’s it!

5 Stars Love this navigation
Got this for my 08 Tacoma. Was easy to install and the Garmin Navigation is fantastic. For the money, this is best aftermarket in dash navigation for my truck.

5 Stars Great Quality
Well I bought this in August on this site and I have been pretty pleased with my purchase to this point.

PROS

-Spot on navigation (very responsive)

-Excellent sound quality

-Touch screen is nice

-Easy to bypass to watch videos all the time

-Aesthetically pleasing

-IPOD control is quick and flawless

-DVD playback is smooth

-Good price for the features

CONS

-Navigation voice can be a little mouthy (Ok Ok I’m turning dang) This can be remedied by turning her off and still having a warning beep.

-Screen could be a little brighter for DVD viewing

-Sat radio should be cheaper and easier to hook up

-Remote with this many features needs backlighting

All in all im very pleased. I think I may get the backup camera in the near future. Be sure to get all the options you want or otherwise you will have to remove the radio each time something is added

5 Stars Worked out well
I bought this over Christmas to install in my Accord. It worked out great. The Garmin navigation speaks for itself, theres no use reviewing it other than it is perfect, fast, and accurate.

I also setup the Sirius satellite radio extension. It should be noted that both the gps and Sirius antennas will work when wired through your air vents and secured to your dashboard so that they can see up through your windshield. Neither (as the Sirius one will claim) needs to be installed on the exterior of the vehicle. NOTE: those of you with after-market car tinting, make sure the tinting film is not metallic, it will inter fer with your signal.

Gounding the brake detection wire will disable the parking brake requirement to play any sort of video, which is required by law in most (if not all) states.

Startup time on a 60 degree day is about 10 seconds. Those of you interested in changing the stock start-up image from the basic blue and white Kenwood stuff, need a special convert file from Kenwood.

Lucky for you, I’ve indexed it in torrents, and rapidshare for everyone’s use. Included in this zip file is a text file with instructions, and the convert file that you need for the unit. You will also need a USB drive (and more importantly, access to the USB port, keep this in mind before you install).

4 Stars Great unit
OK, my wife got a new car with the Honda Nav system, which has consolidated the tuner, CD changer, XM radio, bluetooth, and GPS with a nice size screen (about 7″) and I immediately fell in love with it. Only, it’s her car. So when I traded in my car for a new one, I started thinking about getting my own setup.

Enter the Kenwood DNX7120. It does not have all the features I wanted, specifically it was lacking satellite radio and bluetooth, but they are available as optional add-on components. With the add-ons, everything appears and functions as one consolidated unit. Great! The price is decent enough, the unit that is closer to being fully consolidated is priced at slightly over $1500 at this time, while this unit is just slightly over $900. The add-on componenents are roughly $200 extra, so the cost savings seemed to justify going this route.

Quality: from my perspective, great. The unit takes maybe 30 seconds to boot into a usable screen, but while it is booting up it automatically starts playing whatever you left it at. So if you were last listing to FM radio, about 5 - 10 seconds after you start you will at least have music. Sound is great, although my car is not an audiophile’s high-end, but I enjoy it. The unit has a large number of potential interfaces, to include USB, I-pod, and A/V RCA connectors. Video display is nice and sharp. Favorites seems to be limited to 6 of each area (FM, XM), but that limitation might be because I haven’t fully read the manuals yet. (I’d like to have more than 6 XM favorites).

This unit comes with a remote. The remote has a lot of buttons making it more complex than I care for, so I can’t see myself using it while I drive. But maybe your passenger will want to use it.

Drawback: lack of data interfaces. The built-in Garmin would have a good source of updates if it had an SD card reader, but it doesn’t. The manual says that updates are either through the SD or the DVD player, so I guess I’m stuck with ordering a DVD when it’s time to update. I’ll try the USB, but I had read another review that said the USB won’t update the Garmin’s database.

GPS: It’s Garmin (love it or not). I love my portable Garmin Nuvi, and this acts very similar to it, so I feel comfortable with the nav programming. One bad thing (maybe should have put under drawbacks), if I’m running the GPS for a route and the phone rings and I take it, the GPS will not be displayed at all during the phone call. So either you’re on a stretch of road that you won’t miss a turn, or you’d better make the call short.

Last thoughts: This particular model is now, I believe, out of production and superceded by the DNX 81xx series. So obviously prices will be going down. If you can get this unit at $700 or under, it will be an exceptional bargain. It’s still a good deal at current prices. Get all your optional components at one time and install everything together. You probably won’t want to take it apart later just to add an add-on component.

UPDATE: After using this for a few days, reading the manual, and playing around with it, I have found that you can talk via bluetooth and still watch the GPS map. The unit will not automatically revert back to your screen, but all you have to do is press the NAV button and you will get the map back. So at this point, I wish I had given it 5 stars, but it seems that you cannot edit your initial star rating.

Digicom DC129 PLASMA LCD SCREEN CLEANERLARGE BOTTLE 8 oz

Digicom DC129 PLASMA LCD SCREEN CLEANERLARGE BOTTLE 8 oz

With the transformation of todays technology into high resolution, Plasma and LCD screens comes a clearer more brilliant picture that has never been experienced before. Unfortunately these items through day to day use to tend to act as a magnet attracting dust and fingerprints. As a result a result you get diminished picture clarity. Using a common cleaner is not a choice. Using harsh alcohol or ammonia based cleaners can streak and/or scratch your screen and can eventually strip away your screens protective coding. The Digicom screen cleaning liquid has been specially formulated to resist drippage therefore preventing from rolling down into the delicate corners and causing damage to your TV/LCD. The Digicom cleaning liquid contains no alcohol, ammonia or any other harsh detergents. It is has been also been designed to reduce static electricity that attracts dust.

4 Stars Worth it?
This stuff works GREAT! However, it is a little pricey. If I could do it again I would look for a little bit cheaper brand…

5 Stars Works great with no streaks!
I found this at Big Lots for $4.00 Item # DC-129P

It works great any produces no streaks when applied with the included lint free shammy. I recommend this over other harsh cleansers. I use it on both my plasma and smaller lcd displays. Can’t think of a reason not to use this is you have small kids. I also noticed less dust collecting on the screen of our 34″ Samsung Tube Type television. Try it!

1 Star Not worth it…
I tried this on my Sony 46″ and it did not do it’s thing. It left the screen with streaks. I also tried it on my PC CRT monitor and it left streaks as well. I went out and bought Monster’s ScreenClean and it was perfect. Like they say, you get what you paid for.

5 Stars it works
comparable to Monster screen cleaner at Best Buy, it was cheaper to buy and I didn’t have to go anywhere. Smells good too!

We bought this for our daughter for Christmas $74.00. All in All a good buy. My only complaint is the screen is a little dark and wish we could change the brightness.

LG DP885 8 5 Inch Portable DVD Player

LG DP885 8 5 Inch Portable DVD Player

Marketing description is not available.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Very nice portable DVD player
Works well, the built in speakers are good, but MOST of the time you’ll be using headphone. Like the ability to connect iPod for watching movies/TV shows.

1 Star BROKE in 5 months!! Terrible “Cust. Service” Runaround!
Bought this for the kids. Screen went blank after 5 months. Called LG Cust. Service. They said item was discontinued, & they’d send pre-paid shipping label for return for refund. 4 weeks later still no label. Afraid to ship back because I’ll never receive refund. Spoke to CS reps. & even a CS manager - no good. I’m glad this is the only LG product I ever bought, and never dished out major $$$ on other products. I would not buy anything from this manufacturer. If they can’t properly handle a simple DVD player issue, imagine your big-screen TV!!!

By the way, I checked out lg electronics on the BBB, and they have a “C” grade for customer service and an “F” for their corporate headquarters. So I’d like to change the rating to 0 stars!

3 Stars Glass screen - creates more glare
This is a nice player with a very good picture. However, if you’re using it in the car, the glass screen creates more glare than an LCD would. The swivel screen is nice for positioning, but if you have two kids watching it (as we do), they may bicker about moving the screen (as they did). Overall the player seems reliable and works well with good sound, even while driving over bumps in the road etc. The red is a nice color but leaves a lot of fingerprints. Has 2 headphone jacks which is very useful. For this price, it should come with a carrying case, but there isn’t one included.

4 Stars Beautiful unit, a little heavy.
.I just purchased this unit, and I am very happy with the movie quality, sharp and crisp. The sound is excellent, specially if you use IPod buds. Tried to see pictures using the USB port, but they showed very grainy and slow. Is also heavy compared with others in the market, which makes it kind of cumbersome to carry in a purse when on a trip. But I must say it is very pretty.

4 Stars Comparison with the Sony FX820
I have both this unit - the LG DP885 and the Sony FX820, so this is comparing these 2 units and bringing out the strengths / weaknesses of both. This is not so much of a technical review, but more from a functional point of view.

Exterior

With regard to the LG DP885, the screen and finish are great…from the shiny red top to the gloss black finish on the body housing, it’s an attactive unit. On the Sony, the finish is more of a satin finish, so as some reviewers have noted, fingerprints are less obvious on the Sony than on the LG. As far as the overall shape, the LG has a silver chrome lip that aids you in opening the lid whereas on the Sony, you stick your fingers in between the lid and body to open it up. As far as the overall shape, the LG has the shape more like a laptop with angular/sharper edges on the bottom sides, etc whereas the Sony has more of a rounded edge form and seems a little more portable and rugged and less prone to mars and scratches.

Controls

Controls on the LG are intuitive and straight forward. The mode button allows you to switch between viewing a DVD to a different AV source or reading from a flash drive. Being able to review pictures (or mpg files) stored on a flash drive is a great way to review pictures/movie clips and is a huge plus that few portable DVD players have right now. Sure you can burn pics to a dvd and view them, but it’s much simpler to copy something to a flash drive and plug it in to the USB. I also copied an audio book on CD to a flash drive to see what would happen and it also played just fine. Then you can turn the screen off and just listen to an audio book (or just drop the CD in the player, but wanted to see if it would play off of a USB flash.) Volume setting on the LG is by way of a thumbwheel on the right side whereas on the Sony, the volume control is on the screen lid. Although both have remotes, if you don’t use the remote (depending on the setting, sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t), I prefer the thumbwheel than sticking my finger on the screen that I’m watching and pushing the volume control button (separate + button for up volume, - button for down volume)

Mode, Display, setup, brightness, power, menu, LCD (4:3 or 16:9) are on the body housing vs similar functions on the Sony are all accessed by buttons just below the viewing screen. As mentioned before, I personally don’t like to push buttons on the screen lid since the screen moves around each time you push a button on the Sony (if not using the remote).

Picture quality

The picture quality is better in a number of ways on the LG than on the Sony and recommend that you view both side by side at the store to see for yourself. With the Sony (although initially the colors look deeper and richer) I have to tilt the screen so that I’m looking directly in front to see the best resolution. I don’t find that with the LG. The LG’s picture quality is sharp and crisp whereas on the Sony, I have to have the screen tilted at its “optimal angle” in order to get a good resolution / quality. In adjusting the brightness on the Sony, although you can adjust the brightness, contrast, color etc, for me it either blows out the lighter sections (too much contrast) or you lose picture detail in the blacks…On the LG, I find the picture to be very clean without playing with the adjustments.

Sound quality

The sound quality on either unit is what it is…depending on whether you’re viewing a DVD at home or in the car or on the train, headphones/earbuds, or good quality computer speakers are recommended. When viewing a DVD at home, I have the unit connected to Bose speakers (Companion 3) and the sound quality is like a mini home theater unit, so in reality I never listen to either unit through their provided speakers and the audio is either through earbuds while on the train or through good quality home computer speakers.

Screen Precaution

On both units, the LG and Sony are designed where you can flip the screen around and lay the screen flat on the body housing making it a tablet design. On both units, this is a critical point. With both units you can only turn the lid 180 degrees IN ONE DIRECTION ONLY and return back to its original position from the direction you started. In other words on the LG, flip the screen to vertical and rotate clockwise 180 degrees then lay it down flat on the unit. To put it back, it must be rotated back COUNTERCLOCKWISE to return it to its original position. If you rotate the screen in the wrong direction, you run the risk of breaking the screen unit!!! On the LG, the screen feels a bit more wobbly than on the Sony. Even when lifting the lid, on the LG the screen torques quite a bit if you lift it from any point other than center and feels like you’re going to snap the screen off from the body housing. On the Sony, you will still lift the screen from the center, but it has a more solid feel but this is a weak joint (on both units) and you will need to be careful. If you’re getting either unit for kids, I would either tell them to be very careful, or do it for them (such as when they’re viewing in a car setting)

So as far as what I use…if I’m traveling, I bring the Sony since I don’t care as much about the picture in that kind of setting. If I’m at my desk (I don’t watch movies on the computer - too noisy) and not watching on the home theater downstairs, I’m watching on the LG because of the better picture quality and I find myself watching more movies lately on the LG than on the regular home theater. So for you, decide how you’re going to use it most and hope this helps a bit.
